Here, the goal was to create a helicopter landing pad using the Ecoraster E50 system, the pad needed to exceed the technical specifications of traditional concrete or Asphalt whilst being at least as strong but having the added benefit of being permeable. The Ecoraster E50 tiles were laid on a 300mm type 3 reduced fines sub-base which was completely free draining. On the top of this was laid hydrocarbon filtration separation layer, then a screed level of 20mm. The grids were then filled with a permeable resin bound fine black basalt stone (6mm). The ‘H’ for the pad was created with a resin bound white clean limestone.
The end result was that the pad came in at approximately 80% of the cost of non-permeable surfaces, however, the fitting time was under 50% of more traditional surfaces.
